Terms of service

Last updated: September 2026
Draft for review. Have these terms checked by an adviser before launch.

1. The service

PlagTrace compares documents with other sources and reports where text matches. Reports are evidence to support human review; they are not a finding of plagiarism or misconduct.

2. Your account and API keys

You are responsible for keeping logins and API keys secure, for using API keys only from your own servers, and for the actions taken with them.

3. Acceptable use

Only submit content you are entitled to process. Do not use the service to harass anyone, to test ways of evading plagiarism checks, or to overload or disrupt the service.

4. Fees and allowances

Paid plans include the allowance described in your order. Checks beyond it are charged or paused as agreed. Trials are free and may be ended at any time.

5. Data

Each institution controls the student work it submits. We process it only to provide the service, as set out in our privacy policy and any data processing agreement.

6. Availability and changes

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee the service will be uninterrupted. We may improve or change features and will tell customers about significant changes.

7. Liability

The service is provided to support academic judgement. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for decisions made using reports, or for indirect losses.

8. Ending the service

You can stop using the service at any time. On request we will delete your institution's data, subject to any legal retention requirements.
